Carta de regreso a la escuela/ Back to school letter

Dear Parents and Caregivers,
We look forward to a fun-filled year of learning. Here are a few things you need to know for this school year.

School and Classroom Rules

Be Safe                      Be Respectful                        Be Responsible
Our goal is for every student to be the best student they can be.

Behavior System
The behavior system is visual so the students can see how their day is going.  The students will keep track of their behavior daily on the calendar in their planner.  Each day is a new day so the students will always start the day on green.
Purple
Recognizing extra safe, respectful or responsible behavior
Green
All students start on green each day.
Blue
FYI: a warning/reminder for the student that they need to change behaviors.*If a student gets three FYI’s in a month this turns into a problem solver
Yellow
Problem Solver: Student fills out a problem-solver and conferences with the teacher about how they can change their behavior. These problem solvers will go home with the students and must be signed by parents.
Red
Referral: This is for major problems or repetitive negative behavior that cannot be solved by student and teacher alone, and needs the help of parents, principal and/or counselor

Please take a moment to look at the current month’s calendar daily.  Every day your child will fill in the date with the colors they were on in both the English and Spanish classrooms.
Homework

Students will begin homework on September 9th.  They will have daily homework.  Students will write their homework assignments in their planner each day.  Homework will include 30 minutes of reading, half of their time reading should be in English and half in Spanish.  Please put your initials at the bottom of the planner to verify that your child has read each day and have them write the title of the book they have read.  They will also have daily math homework.   Students will also have occasional projects.  One will be in English and the next in Spanish.  We will give students a checklist/plan to help them stay organized and will check in with them regularly.
Clothing

Please write your child’s name in their coats and sweaters.

PE, Music and Library
Physical Education is on Monday and Wednesday so please make sure your child wears tennis shoes on those days so they can participate safely.  Library is still to be determined
Birthdays

In order to maximize our learning time, we want to celebrate birthdays once a month.  Please do not send treats on your child’s birthday.  You will receive a note with the date and time of the party.  This is usually the last day of the month.   A helper will contact you so that you may help plan the party.

Absences and Tardies

Please call the office if your child is going to be absent.  The phone number is 757-5941.  If your child is going to be late (arriving in the classroom after 8:15 a.m.) he or she will need to check into the office before coming to class.

Toys

Students are NOT allowed to bring toys to school.  This includes skateboards, trading cards, and personal sports equipment. Cell phones must be kept on mute and in their backpacks.

Arrival and Dismissal

Students should arrive after 7:45 a.m.  Breakfast will be served in the classroom starting at 8:10.  Students will remain in the library until the bell rings at 8:10.  Students may not enter their classroom or be in the hallways before 8:10.  Dismissal is at 2:40 p.m.  You can meet your child at the playground or blacktop.  Students are not allowed out the side door for safety reasons. If someone different will be picking up your child please advise the office and teacher in advance with a note or phone call.
**Remember!  Friday’s dismissal time is 1:45.**
